Overheard in the Dining Room

Me: Okay, so the way to tackle these Sentence Completion questions is to find a word that fits in the blank, and then look for a similar word in the list of answer choices.  Here’s the first one: “To be a writer, one needs a great deal of _______.”

Student: Pencils.

me: andy! you are not listening nicely to teacher today. you need to listen nicely. when teacher says, "put away your books," what do you do? you have to put away your books! ok?
andy: (bursts into tears)
me: (hugging andy) it's ok, andy. teacher's not angry. teacher is NO angry! teacher just wants you to listen nicely! ok?
andy: (still sobbing)
